Water usage in farming is very significant and extremely important for growing, provision of cattle drinking water or in the simple act of washing down. Water is the single greatest challenge to sustainability and the farming sector continues to optimize its water consumption by increasing efficiency and utilizing innovative technologies.

Water Storage and Irrigation

The current position is that a daily water abstraction of 20,000 litres requires no licensing. This abstraction can be used to supply holding tanks thus ensuring maximum efficiency of water supply. The holding tanks can then be used to supply existing irrigation systems as required. In addition it may be possible to make use of natural rainfall by the efficient use of water harvesting.

Facility Heating and Cooling

The current trend for renewable energy has seen a rapid rise in the use of ground source heating systems (GSHP). Using borehole technology we install both open and closed vertical collector loops which transmit via heat pumps systems.

The use of vertical loops rather than horizontal ones has the advantage of utilising less space and the heat collection is not affected by fluctuations in ground or air temperatures. The deeper the borehole is drilled the less susceptible the collector is to extreme seasonal temperatures or soil conditions.

GSHP systems are particularly useful where ‘space heating’ is required eg. open-plan offices, working and recreational areas. However, in warm conditions the heat pump system is reversible so that cool air conditioning can take place.
